This is a seriously serious bicycle stand. I was hesitant to spend so much money on a stand. However I carry a very awkward offset load on my Big Dummy and the normal side stand doesn’t work for me.
When I received the stand I was really impressed. This is an extraordinarily well engineered piece of equipment and looks strong enough to support a motorcycle. (Maybe not a Honda GoldWing)
The fit is excellent. The wide leg spacing provides excellent lateral stability. The legs are also adjustable for length. Although it may not have been the designer’s intention, I have adjusted the legs unevenly so the bike leans away from the offset load making the loaded bike far more stable than I thought possible. The bike will still stand up fine with no load.
I’m very impressed and grateful that Surly went to the trouble of designing this stand. It will only fit the Big Dummy so I don’t imagine it would be a big seller. Given how well made this stand is and how few they will probably sell, I actually consider it to be very good value.
